A 19th Century Japanese long kiseru, the long bamboo centre with bronzed brass bowl and mouth piece, the bowl engraved inscription

 

Kiseru is a Japanese smoking pipe traditionally used for smoking kizami, a fine shredded tobacco product resembling hair.  Typically the mouth piece and bowl are made of metal, with a tubular shaft of wood or bamboo stretching between.  The bowl is much smaller than that of western style pipes
